Adult language classes for people of all levels. A fun and social learning environment for people interested in furthering their language skills and hanging out with some fun Latvian peeps.

Classes are back!
Here is the coming timetable for our lessons:
1st Tuesday and third Thursday of the month at 16:30 at Latvian Center.
4-20.Aug;
1-17.Sept;
6-15.Oct;
3-19.Nov.(Latvian National day);and
1-17.Dec.(Christmas: break-up). Keep well and safe and I’ll see you all there.

OUR SCHOOL
Mūsu skola
Perth Latvian School is held at the Latvian Centre in Belmont, Perth Western Australia. As Perth is located so far from our native home in Latvia it can be hard to keep up with the language and culture. So a few dedicated Latvian Australians decided to create a school where people can come and focus on learning the Latvian language in a fun and welcoming environment.
We hope that by starting these language classes we will be able to bring together more Latvians, descendants of Latvians and people interested in the Latvian culture. Eventually we will add some singing and dancing classes as well, because what better way to learn about the Latvian language and culture than through singing and dancing!

Pertas latviešu skola būs vadīta no Latviešu centra Belmontā, Pertā Rietumustrālijā. Jo Pērta atrodas tik tālu no mūsu dzimtajām mājām Latvijā, ir grūti saglabāt tās valodu un kultūru. Tāpēc daži uznēmīgi laudis nolēma veidot skolu, kurā cilvēki varētu ierasties, un koncentrēties uz latviešu valodas apguvi jautrā un positvā vidē.
Mēs ceram, ka, sākot šīs valodu nodarbības, mēs spēsim apvienot vairākus latviešus, latviešu pēctečus un latviešu interesējošos cilvēkus. Galu galā mēs pievienosim arī dažas dziedāšanas un deju klases, jo tas ir labākais veids, kā iemācīties latviešu valodu un kultūru.

Getting Started
If you are just too excited to wait for the first language class in September and you are starting at a beginner level below are a few facts and links to get you started. All of this will be covered in class so it isn't a prerequisite.
The Latvian Alphabet
Firstly the Latvian standard alphabet consists of 33 letters. It uses 22 unmodified letters of the Latin alphabet. The Latvian alphabet lacks Q, W, X and Y, but their names are kū, dubult vē, iks and igrek.

Do I have to have some words to being classes?Not at all, we take students at every level and find that having students at different levels helps everyone learn more.

Do i have to be Latvian to join Latvian School?Not at all, we have partners of Latvians, people who hope to visit Latvia in the future and people with a Latvian background. We welcome everyone.

How much are classes?$5 per class, how cheap is that!

Do I have to pay if I can't make the class?No, is you don't make it to class for what ever reason we won't charge you.

What if i'm not very good at learning languages?Don't worry, you will be surprised how many words you can pick up just by being around the language. We have students at lots of different levels, some pick things up quickly while others it takes time, we have all the time in the world.
